Esports awards at academic sports gala in Poland

During the 2025 Academic Sport Association’s Gala in Warsaw, esports achievements were honoured for the first time in history, marking a game-changing step that positions Poland as a continental leader in academic esports-sport cooperation.

On 30 October 2025, the annual gala of the Akademicki Związek Sportowy (AZS) took place in Warsaw, Poland, honouring the most significant figures of the year in student sport. For the first time in the event’s history, awards for outstanding achievements in esports were also presented.

In the 2024/2025 season of the EDU ESPORTS nationwide university competition, there were two victorious teams:

  • Politechnika Wrocławska (Wrocław University of Science and Technology) emerged victorious in the League of Legends division,
  • Uniwersytet WSB Merito w Poznaniu (WSB Merito University in Poznan) won the Counter-Strike division.

At the gala, representatives of the winning universities received commemorative statuettes from the hands of the Polish Esports Federation President Łukasz Trybuś and AZS Vice-President for Development Mariusz Walczak.

“We are delighted with our fruitful cooperation with AZS, which has now lasted six years, and this gala is a symbolic moment for us. I am convinced that soon we will be celebrating students’ success not only in ‘traditional’ esports but also in digital sport,” said Łukasz Trybuś.

This represents the first-of-its-kind European collaboration between a leading national esports federation and a national academic sport body. It sets a pioneering direction for esports-sport academic integration across Europe.
